Campers, fishermen, and hikers will be pleased to know that additional bear proof dumpsters have been placed at both loops of the Great Meadows Campground. The project was funded by the Great American Outdoor Act and Recreation Enhancement Act (REA). REA is funded through fee collection, 80% of which stays on the forest. The dumpster pads were constructed by Forest Service employees, Youth Conservation Corps students, and Eastern Kentucky University students. In order to not attract nuisance bears, visitors to Great Meadows are urged to keep the lids to the dumpsters closed and not leave garbage outside of the dumpsters.
