The McCreary County Sheriff’s Office recently received several concerning reports of juveniles suffering medical episodes related to the possible ingestion of illegal controlled substances. An investigation began with an examination of local businesses. During the course of the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office requested and received assistance from the Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). As the matter developed, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also became involved.
Search warrants were obtained for two Pine Knot businesses (Good to Go and Hazel Mart), and on September 16, searches were subsequently conducted. Because this is an ongoing multi-agency investigation, the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office is limiting the information it releases at this time.
McCreary County Sheriff David Sampson commented on the operation.
“We value and welcome lawful businesses in McCreary County,” Sampson said. “However, if any business violates Kentucky Revised Statutes or provides products that harm our children, we will take appropriate investigative and enforcement action.”
The following agencies were involved in the operation or provided support on the scene: McCreary County Sheriff’s Office, ABC, DEA, ICE, Commonwealth’s Attorney Ronnie Bowling and Assistant Eric Dixon, Commonwealth Detective Wayne Bird, KY State Police, KY Fish and Wildlife, and the South McCreary (Pine Knot) Fire Department.
