Thomas Publishing purchases local newspapers

Photo by Eugenia Jones Steven and Jessica Thomas, new owners and publishers of The McCreary County Voice and Wayne Weekly, are pictured when they visited with the Pine Knot Intermediate Dragon Gazette newspaper staff in September, 2023. Prior to the couple’s purchase of The Voice and Wayne Weekly, they filled the roles of publisher (Jessica) and production manager (Steven) for the two publications.
To say The McCreary County Voice has undergone numerous changes since August 2022 is “voicing” it mildly. During that time frame, The Voice has landed in three different office locations, and with this article, it officially announce its third buy-out.
The Voice is pleased to announce Steven and Jessica Thomas of Thomas Publishing, a husband/wife team who have been actively involved as production manager and publisher of The McCreary County Voice since September, 2022, are now co-owners and co-publishers of The Voice and Wayne (County) Weekly.
With four and five years of newspaper experience, respectively, Steven and Jessica Thomas purchased the McCreary and Wayne County newspapers from the Adair Progress, Inc. due to the couple’s heartfelt belief that all counties should have a community newspaper.
“I never want McCreary or Wayne County to be without a local newspaper,” Jessica Thomas said. “I am very passionate about preserving the history of both counties. I’m equally passionate about educating people about the importance of local journalism.”
Despite multiple changes in ownership and office location, the commitment of The McCreary County Voice staff to providing a high quality, community newspaper for readers and advertisers has never wavered. Now, under new ownership and nestled into what we anticipate being The Voice’s permanent office on Hwy 27 at the foot of Jesus Hill in Whitley City, we look forward to being able to assist our readers and customers locally with business and circulation matters in a more timely and efficient manner though our Whitley City, KY office.
Under the new owners, local office staff remains the same with Eugenia Jones as editor, Derek Dobbs as office/media manager, Suzanna Martinez as creative director, and Shane Gilreath assisting with the advertising needs of our customers.
Despite a change in ownership, readers of The McCreary County Voice can be assured the newspaper’s mission remains the same. As always, those of us at The Voice remain dedicated to “informing, educating, and caring about our community while preserving the history of McCreary County.”
