Timber Theft

By Eugenia Jones

A New Liberty Road man who allegedly cut timber illegally in the Daniel Boone National Forest (Stearns Ranger District) received a citation and made his first appearance in Federal Court on December 14.  Steven S. Gibson of New Liberty Road, Williamsburg, KY was charged with a federal violation for allegedly being one of the subjects responsible for a timber theft incident in the New Liberty/Bear Wallow area.

During Gibson’s December 14 court appearance, U.S. Magistrate Judge Hanly A. Ingram appointed an attorney to represent Gibson.

U. S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer James Hoskins investigated the timber theft and identified Gibson as one of the suspects allegedly responsible.  U. S. Forest Service Federal Law Enforcement Officer Hershal A. Neal located Gibson at his residence, and at Officer Hoskins request, issued Gibson a violation notice for a mandatory court appearance for cutting or removing timber from national forest property.

Gibson’s next court date is scheduled for January 25, 2022.
