School Board to begin Superintendent interviews

The search for a new McCreary County School’s Superintendent is nearing an end as the field of potential candidates will be narrowed down to a select few this week.
The McCreary County Board of Education is set to hold a special session tonight (Thursday) to meet with the screening committee and receive a list of potential Superintendent candidates for the vacant position.

For the past month the six-person screening committee has reviewed applications from 15 candidates for the job, conducting background and reference checks. The committee was instructed to review each of the applicants and prepare a list of five to six candidates for the Board.
Once that is completed, the Board will schedule interviews with the candidates recommended by the committee, or any additional applicants the Board wishes to interview. The interviews will presumably take place over the next few weeks as the Board considers their options for a new leader for the District.

The Board’s goal is to have a new Superintendent in place by June 15.
Last month it was announced that 15 applications for the position were submitted through the Kentucky School Boards Association, who had been retained by the Board to assist with the search.

Of those 13 were men and two were female. Four were already serving as Superintendents in other districts, eight were from central office positions, two were principals and one was listed as retired. Only two candidates were from out of state. The KSBA could not specify if any of the remaining 13 candidates were from McCreary or another county.
