Lena Mae Owens beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on January 30th at the age of 70 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky and was placed in the care of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. She was surrounded by love just as she spent her life-giving it.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery.
Born on October 4, 1955 at their family home to Coy and Ima (Hughes)New in the Day Ridge community of McCreary County, Kentucky, Lena carried with her a quiet strength and a generous heart. She had a way of making people feel welcome and cared for whether through her warm smile, her listening ear, or the simple comfort she offered so freely. To know her was to know kindness.
Lena was deeply devoted to her family. Being a mother was one of her greatest joys and her love showed in countless everyday moments; support given without question, encouragement offered at the right time, and a steady presence that could always be counted on. She taught by example, leaving lessons of compassion resilience and grace.
Lena worked as a waitress and hostess for several restaurants and as a desk, clerk, and housekeeper for the Holiday Inn hotel before becoming a homemaker for her family, which brought her much happiness.
She was especially devoted to her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She delighted in every moment spent with them and loved them fiercely and unconditionally. Her laughter, patience, and pride in each of them will be cherished memories they carry forever. She found joy in music with a special love for Bob Dylan and his harmonica music. She liked to cook and read. She enjoyed watching soap operas and lifetime movies, family camping, and playing Scrabble. These were not just pastimes but reflections of who she was thoughtful, patient, and full of life.
Lena is survived by her children Jamey Lynn Jones, Stephanie Ann Jones, and Randi Michelle Flynn and her husband, Kevin Flynn, grandchildren, Sydney Destin Reynolds (Matthew), Jacob Scott Dylan Reynolds, Kaitlyn Lee Middleton (Cody), Aubrey Nicole Jones, Alyssa Breanne Jones, Mia Fairzina Jones, great grandchildren, Brynleigh Noelle Middleton and Jude Alexander Middleton, Brother, Leon New, sisters, Ruth Taylor, Judy Clark, and Kathy New, Nephew, Curtis New, nieces, Tonya Reynolds and her children, Amanda and Earl Kidd and their children, Rhiannon Selvidge and Mykayla and her children, Sarah Clark and many other cousins and friends, each of whom will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the lives she touched and the love she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
