Have you ever heard the phrase, “Just Follow your heart?” Have you ever done that and found yourself hurt, lonely, or lost? Our heart is a tricky thing, it will lead us in the wrong way almost every time. So what are we supposed to do? Without the heart, there is no hope, no joy, and no love. So we know that we cannot just go through this life ignoring our heart. Simply going through life logically does not work. We would live a boring, robotic, life. What does Scripture say: You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. (Deuteronomy 6:5). Here, God gives Moses, the author of the first 5 books of the Bible, a key truth for the Jews then and everybody today. Our heart will lead us astray, but if we give it all to God in love, then we will find what we are missing. We cannot simply, just follow our heart, it will lead to hurt. However, if we give our heart to God, and love Him fully, then we can follow Him and live a joyful eternal life.
We have to ask the question at this point: What are you doing with your heart? There is hope, the old cliché of, “there is a light at the end of the tunnel.” That tunnel is often our life, hidden twists and turns with unknown and unseen danger and problems. The light is Christ leading us in the right way, helping us make out the next corner and ultimately exiting the tunnel into His loving embrace. We may not always be able to trust our heart, but we can trust God with our heart. Maybe you’ve been hurt, Maybe you have had a rough go, what a better time than ever to simply say, “Here God, I give you all my heart. Take it, protect it, Take me, Hold me.”
