Danny (“Dan”) Mitchell Lawson

Danny (“Dan”) Mitchell Lawson, 62, of Whitley City, Kentucky died July 13, 2024, at Albert A. Chandler Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky and was placed into the care of the Hickman Strunk Funeral Home. He was born on May 4, 1962, to John and Joyce Lawson in Somerset, Kentucky and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan.    Dan served in the National Guard of Kentucky from 1979 until he was honorably discharged in 1985.  He married Pamela (Runion) Lawson on December 30, 1988, and they had one child, Lesley Dannielle Lawson King.    He worked as a territory manager for Bryan Equipment Sales, a distributor for STIHL handheld products. He started in 1995 and quickly became a top salesman for the company. Dan won the Bud Bryan award three times, and STIHL’s National Salesman of the year. Dan loved STIHL products and could fix any issue with them. That is why he was always referred to by his retailers as “Dan the man with the plan”.    Dan loved the outdoors. He loved to deer hunt in the fall with his wife and go four wheeling with his friends and family. During the summer, you could find Dan sitting on the front porch of his houseboat or scaring those courageous souls that were willing to ride a tube behind his boat. Recently, he spent his days with his grandson taking him on trips and trying to get him to say “pa-pa”.    Dan is survived by his wife, Pamela Lawson of Whitley City, KY; daughter Lesley King and her husband Cody, and grandson Leyon Daniel King of Lexington, KY; mother Joyce Summer Lawson of Whitley City, KY; sister Ella Phillips and her husband Victor of Whitley City, KY; sister Lisa Jones and her husband Don of Nicholasville, KY; as well as nieces, nephew, great niece and great nephews.    He is preceded in death by his father, John Lawson, sister Linda Lawson, and brother Johnny Lawson.    Visitation will be Wednesday July 17, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hickman Strunk Funeral Home.    Funeral Services will be Thursday July 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Hickman Strunk Funeral Home with Brother David Ball officiating. Interment will follow at McCreary County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.    Pallbearers will be Freddy Whitt, Larry Goodin, Ron Nash, Don Jones, Victor Phillips, and David Nevels.
